Kara Bridge repairs begin March 10 on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway with partial lane closures to ensure safety and durability

The Federal Government has announced that repair works on damaged expansion joints on Kara Bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway will commence on 10 March.

The Federal Controller of Works in Ogun, Mr Olayiwola Komolafe, disclosed the schedule in a statement on Saturday.

The maintenance work, directed by the Minister of Works, Sen. Dave Umahi, will take place on the outbound Lagos section of Kara Bridge between Chainage 5+350 and 6+115. Komolafe said the repair project is expected to last two weeks, concluding on 24 March.

According to Komolafe, a partial closure of the affected lanes will be necessary, narrowing road width for vehicles travelling outbound Lagos.

The ministry explained that this measure is essential to enable engineers to replace the damaged expansion joints and ensure the bridge’s long-term safety and durability.

Motorists have been urged to plan journeys in advance and consider alternative routes to minimise traffic congestion.

“Motorists travelling from Ikorodu to Mowe, Sagamu and Ibadan are advised to go through Shimawa or Mosinmi.

Those travelling from Lagos Island may explore the Epe corridor via Ijebu Ode to connect Sagamu, Ibadan and Mowe,” Komolafe advised.

The Federal Controller noted that shorter routes may not necessarily guarantee faster travel during the repair period.

He appealed to road users to obey traffic management directives and exercise caution around the work zone.

Komolafe expressed regret for any inconvenience caused and thanked motorists for their understanding and cooperation.
