Four Bandits Nabbed at Akure Airport

Four suspected bandits arrested at Akure Airport in Ondo during a joint security operation by FAAN, military, police, and local vigilantes

Security personnel have apprehended four suspected bandits at Akure Airport, Ondo State, following a coordinated operation involving aviation and local security agencies.

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) reported that the individuals were spotted behind the airport perimeter near Eleyewo community.

FAAN’s Aviation Security (AVSEC), the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force (NPF), and local security outfits, including Amotekun, launched an immediate joint search operation.

“During the operation, some individuals were seen attempting to flee the area. Four suspects were eventually apprehended by the joint security team and have been handed over to the Nigeria Police Force Area Command for further interrogation,” the FAAN statement read.

FAAN commended the collaboration among security agencies and stressed the importance of strengthening airport perimeter protection.

The agency confirmed that phased improvements are underway to secure airports nationwide against unlawful access and other threats.

The arrests come amid rising concerns about gunmen attacks in Ondo State. Earlier in March, residents in communities like Ayede Ogbese and Ilu-Abo blocked major highways to protest killings and abductions in their areas, highlighting ongoing security challenges.

FAAN reassured travelers and airport host communities of its commitment to maintaining the safety and security of all airport facilities across Nigeria.
