Group urges Bala Mohammed to remain in PDP amid defection rumours, citing loyalty and public confidence in Bauchi leadership

A pro-democracy group in Bauchi State has urged Governor Bala Mohammed to remain in the Peoples Democratic Party amid growing speculation over a possible defection, insisting that his loyalty is critical to sustaining public confidence.

The group, Kauran Bauchi Political Concern Group, said the governor had previously assured supporters that no pressure would compel him to join the All Progressives Congress, describing him as a leader known for keeping his word.

Chairman of the coalition, Rayyan Adamu, called on the governor to uphold the ideals of past nationalist figures such as Sa’adu Zungur and Abubakar Tafawa Balewa in order to maintain his standing as a respected Northern political figure.

“Your Excellency, you are a man of your word. As earlier stated by you, no amount of threats will make you leave the PDP for the APC,” the group said in a statement.

The coalition added that the governor’s pro-people policies have continued to attract support from religious leaders, who, it noted, frequently commend and pray for his leadership.

It further urged him to ignore calls for defection, describing such appeals as contrary to the interests of Bauchi State and the wider nation.

However, a contrasting position emerged from another group, the Kaura Force Movement, which declared support for whatever political decision the governor may ultimately take.

The movement’s leader, Bello Maiwada, described Mohammed as a tested statesman and a strong advocate of democratic accountability, noting that his leadership has been anchored on performance, fairness and tangible benefits for citizens.

Maiwada highlighted ongoing infrastructural development, institutional reforms and social investment programmes across the state as evidence of what he called a robust governance approach.

He disclosed that the group, comprising youths, professionals, community leaders and civil society actors, had resolved to support the governor’s future political ambitions by purchasing his nomination form and contributing significantly to campaign logistics if he decides to contest any office.

The group also acknowledged lingering internal disputes within the PDP, describing them as longstanding leadership disagreements yet to be resolved through dialogue and consensus.

It warned that weakening opposition parties could undermine Nigeria’s democratic stability, stressing that any decision by the governor regarding his political affiliation remains a constitutional right that should be guided by national interest.
