OPHK Boko Haram Logistics Arrest as troops detain 18 suspects linked to supplying goods to Boko Haram terrorists in Borno State

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have arrested 18 suspected logistics suppliers allegedly en route to Gubio, with intentions to proceed to the Gudumbali axis, a known Boko Haram terrorist enclave in Borno State.

The arrest was confirmed in a daily operational report made available to the News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday, detailing how the suspects were intercepted while transporting goods believed to be destined for members of the Boko Haram terrorist group.

Military authorities said preliminary investigations revealed that all 18 suspects confessed to engaging in the supply of materials to terrorists, citing unemployment as their reason for involvement.

“They admitted that they routinely purchase and convey items to the terrorists,” the report stated.

“Their justification was lack of employment, which points to a deeper socio-economic challenge in Maiduguri and its environs.”

The OPHK Boko Haram Logistics Arrest underscores what the military described as the critical role of civilian collaborators in sustaining insurgent operations, particularly in hard-to-reach areas such as Gubio and Gudumbali.

According to the report, the development also validates recent comments by the Chief of Defence Staff on the link between economic hardship and the expansion of insurgency support networks across the region.

“The arrest highlights the critical role of civilian collaborators in sustaining terrorist operations, particularly in remote areas such as Gubio and Gudumbali,” the military added.

The army further called for a combined strategy involving intensified military operations alongside economic empowerment and job creation initiatives aimed at addressing the root causes of insurgency and reducing recruitment into terrorist logistics chains.
