Popular Nigerian gospel singer and Nollywood soundtrack artiste Onos Brisibi has died at the age of 55, her family confirmed in a statement released on Thursday.

The family said Onos Nancy Brisibi passed away on March 23, 2026, following a prolonged illness, describing her death as a profound and painful loss.

“The Brisibi family announces with deep sorrow the passing of Esteemed Sister Onos Nancy Brisibi, who transitioned to glory on 23rd March 2026 after a protracted illness,” the statement read.

The family paid tribute to her as a devoted Christian and gifted singer whose music inspired and uplifted many across Nigeria and beyond.

They described her as a passionate praise and worship leader with an angelic voice that left a lasting impression on listeners.

“She will be remembered as a beautiful, fun-loving woman with a heart of gold, whose faith, warmth, and kindness left lasting impressions on all who knew her,” the statement added.

Born on November 20, 1970, in Aladja, Delta State, Brisibi began her music career at the age of nine, steadily rising to become one of Nollywood’s most sought-after soundtrack artistes.

Her voice featured prominently in several popular films, including Domitilla, Mortal Inheritance, Deadly Passion, Blood Money, Deadly End, and Shame, earning her recognition for her distinctive and emotive delivery.

In a notable highlight of her career, she also featured on the hit song Gra Gra by Lagbaja, further cementing her place in Nigeria’s music landscape.

News of the Onos Brisibi death has triggered an outpouring of grief across the entertainment industry. Actress Stella Damasus expressed sorrow, saying the loss “hurts” while offering prayers for her peaceful rest.

Veteran broadcaster Emma Ugolee described the development as “devastating,” revealing that he had only just learned of her critical condition while preparing a tribute to honour her contributions.

The family said funeral and burial arrangements would be announced at a later date.

Onos Brisibi is survived by her daughter, Sarah Brisibi, her mother, siblings, extended family, friends, and her church community at LoveWorld Ministries.
