Lucas Torreira, midfielder of Galatasaray, on Saturday declared Victor Osimhen among the top three footballers in the world, placing the Nigerian striker above several global stars in a bold endorsement.

Speaking in an interview with MK News Turkey, Torreira named Osimhen alongside Federico Valverde and Kylian Mbappé as the standout performers in world football.
“Federico Valverde, Kylian Mbappé, and Victor Osimhen are currently the world’s best footballers,” Torreira said, offering a striking assessment that has sparked conversation across the sport.
The Torreira Osimhen world best striker claim comes amid a remarkable season for the Nigerian forward, whose consistent goal-scoring form has been pivotal to Galatasaray’s domestic and European ambitions.
Osimhen, 27, has recorded 19 goals and seven assists in 29 appearances across all competitions, underlining his influence in the club’s push to retain the Turkish Süper Lig title.
His contributions have also helped Galatasaray reach the UEFA Champions League Round of 16, marking a significant milestone for Turkish football.
The forward’s performances have attracted attention from elite European clubs, including FC Barcelona, Real Madrid and Juventus.
Despite the growing interest, a transfer move appears uncertain due to his record-breaking salary and his publicly stated contentment in Turkey.
Torreira’s glowing endorsement places Osimhen ahead of several high-profile attackers, including Lamine Yamal, Vinícius Júnior, Harry Kane and Erling Haaland.
Further backing has come from Nicky Butt, a former midfielder of Manchester United, who urged his former side to consider signing the Nigerian striker ahead of next season.
Butt expressed concern over United’s current attacking options, suggesting that emerging talents such as Benjamin Šeško may require support to meet the demands of leading the line at the club.
“I don’t think Šeško can carry the club up front on his own; they will need another No. 9,” Butt said, adding that Osimhen possesses the physicality and versatility to thrive in the Premier League.
He described the striker as powerful, quick and capable of scoring a variety of goals, highlighting attributes that continue to elevate Osimhen’s reputation on the global stage.
