Abeokuta cult clash killing leaves man identified as “Stone” dead after suspected rival group attack in Ogun State, police confirm investigation
A suspected cult clash in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, has led to the death of a man identified only as “Stone,” following a violent confrontation on Sunday afternoon.

Deadly cult clash in Abeokuta, killing reportedly occurred at about 2:45 p.m. along Wasimi Ake Road, between Centenary Hall and Lotus Bank, in the direction of the Ijemo Agbadu axis.
According to eyewitness accounts, the confrontation broke out between suspected rival cult groups, resulting in gunfire and chaos in the area.
The deceased was allegedly a former leader of the Buccaneer cult group, though authorities have not officially confirmed his affiliation.
Spokesperson of the Ogun State Police Command, Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed the incident and stated that a full-scale investigation has commenced.
He explained that operatives responded to distress calls and found the victim lying in a pool of blood with gunshot wounds and machete injuries to the head.
The police clarified that the incident was not connected to any political gathering or event in the state, countering early speculation circulating online.
According to the command, the violence was confined to the road axis and surrounding neighbourhood, with suspects fleeing the scene before officers arrived.
The victim was later evacuated to the State Hospital, Ijaiye, Abeokuta, where he was confirmed dead, and his body has since been deposited in the morgue for autopsy.
Police authorities have assured residents that an intensified manhunt is underway to apprehend those responsible and bring them to justice.
