NSCDC Ogun arrests suspects in major crackdown as 210 people are detained and N23m recovered in fraud cases across the state

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Ogun State Command, on Wednesday, 7 May 2026, announced the arrest of 210 suspects over a period of one and a half years in connection with offences including vandalism, fraud and illegal mining across Ogun State.

The State Commandant, Mrs Remilekun Ekundayo, disclosed the development during a familiarisation visit to the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Ogun State Council in Abeokuta, where she outlined the command’s operational achievements and ongoing security efforts.

Mrs Ekundayo said the command had also recovered more than N23 million in fraud-related cases, which were returned to victims, while over 1,700 disputes were resolved through Alternative Dispute Resolution mechanisms during the period under review.

She explained that sustained intelligence-led operations had helped the command prevent several criminal activities, particularly in the protection of critical infrastructure such as pipelines, railway corridors and power installations across the state.

The Commandant described the results as a strong reflection of the corps’ commitment to safeguarding national assets and maintaining internal security.

She also called for deeper collaboration with the media to enhance public awareness and strengthen security communication.

“In matters of security, your role becomes even more strategic and impactful,” Mrs Ekundayo said, stressing the importance of journalism in shaping public perception and supporting institutional accountability.

She added that the NSCDC is legally mandated to protect critical national infrastructure, prevent vandalism and economic sabotage, and assist in disaster management and emergency response operations.

In response, the State Chairman of the NUJ, Wale Olanrewaju, assured the command of continued cooperation, noting that journalists in the state would support security agencies through accurate and timely reporting of security-related developments.

The engagement reflects ongoing efforts to deepen collaboration between security institutions and the media in addressing crime and improving public safety in Ogun State.
