Simisola Fajemirokun-Ajayi joins APC House of Reps race for 2027 election, pledging women and youth inclusion in Ondo constituency

Simisola Fajemirokun-Ajayi, a former senior special assistant on strategy, investment and partnership to ex-Minister of Foreign Affairs Yusuf Tuggar, has officially entered the race for the House of Representatives under the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general election.

Fajemirokun-Ajayi purchased her expression of interest and nomination forms in Abuja on Wednesday, confirming her ambition to represent the Ile-Oluji/Oke-Igbo/Odigbo Federal Constituency of Ondo State.

Her political move comes nearly two years after she gained public attention in 2024 following allegations of sexual harassment against a Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, Ibrahim Lamuwa, a claim the official denied.

The matter was previously escalated through government channels and later reviewed by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, though the final outcome was not publicly disclosed.

Speaking after submitting her forms, Fajemirokun-Ajayi said her decision to contest was driven by a strong desire to improve representation for women and young people.

“I’m in the race to represent our women, our youth, and basically that constituency has been underrepresented,” she said, adding that she intends to ensure citizens benefit more directly from governance.

She emphasised that her experience in public service, including her roles in foreign affairs and national policy coordination, would be instrumental in driving development in her constituency if elected.

According to her, these experiences would help unlock economic opportunities across key communities within the federal constituency.

Fajemirokun-Ajayi also lent her voice to the ongoing debate around the Reserved Seats for Women Bill before the National Assembly, describing it as a necessary and overdue reform to strengthen female participation in politics.

She noted that the bill reflects long-standing commitments by political leaders to promote inclusion and ensure balanced representation in governance.

The proposed legislation seeks to create additional legislative seats exclusively for women at both national and state levels, in a bid to address Nigeria’s persistently low female representation in elective offices.

As the 2027 election cycle begins to take shape, her entry into the race adds a notable dimension to the political landscape in Ondo State, where competition within the APC is expected to intensify.
