Osogbo decomposing body discovery prompts police investigation as a woman is found dead in her apartment with autopsy ordered

The Osun State Police Command has confirmed the discovery of a decomposing body in a residential apartment in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, in a case that has triggered an ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.

Osogbo decomposing body discovery occurred on Thursday at a residence located in the Jaleyemi area, where the deceased, identified as Kemisola, was found in her room.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, stated that officers responded promptly after the matter was reported and carried out necessary procedures at the scene.

“The incident was reported today. The remains were evacuated by the police, and an autopsy will be carried out,” he said.

He added that while no visible signs of violence were found on the deceased, a full investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of death.

“There were no marks of violence on the deceased, but the police will investigate the incident to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the death,” Ojelabi added.

Items reportedly found in the room before the evacuation included a knife, a mobile phone, and an empty bottle containing an unidentified substance.

All items have been taken for further examination as part of the investigation.

The remains of the deceased have since been deposited in a mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

A relative of the deceased, who identified himself as her elder brother but declined to be named, said he last saw Kemisola earlier in the week.

“When I saw her on Monday, she told me she would come back to me. But I did not see her again until her body was found today. She was a hairstylist,” he said.

A neighbour, Damilola, described Kemisola as a friendly and well-liked member of the community, noting that she had recently been staying with her maternal uncle after previously moving out of the apartment.

“Kemisola was like a younger sister to me. She was a lovely person,” he said.

Residents also suggested that her absence may not have been immediately noticed until a strong odour was detected from the apartment.
