Kenneth Okonkwo reiterates Peter Obi claims controversy, referencing allegations over nomination process and disputed party selection process
Nigerian actor and lawyer Kenneth Okonkwo, speaking via a post on his verified X account on Tuesday, June 10, 2026, has reiterated controversial allegations involving Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, following a disputed interview involving NDC House of Representatives aspirant Obunike Ohaegbu, escalating the ongoing Peter Obi claims controversy within political and public discourse in Nigeria.

Okonkwo stated that his attention was drawn to recent media interviews granted to Channels TV and NJENJE MEDIA TV, in which Ohaegbu reportedly disputed aspects of earlier conversations attributed to him.
The actor and lawyer maintained that he was “laughing” at the denial, insisting that the details previously shared reflected what was communicated during their discussions.
He alleged that during an oral exchange, he had questioned whether Peter Obi was connected to what he described as a “criminal gang” involved in nomination-related disputes within the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to Okonkwo, Ohaegbu allegedly responded in strong terms, describing Peter Obi as “the head, stomach, and feet” of the group.
Okonkwo further claimed that Ohaegbu had pleaded for intervention to address alleged irregularities within the party’s nomination process, including claims that financial demands and candidate lists were being handled outside formal procedures.
These assertions remain unverified and have not been independently confirmed by any of the parties mentioned.
He also referenced alleged WhatsApp messages said to support his account, insisting that Ohaegbu confirmed aspects of the conversation and the identity of individuals involved.
Okonkwo maintained that he requested the claims be put in writing for clarity, stating that the messages were lengthy and detailed.
In excerpts shared from Ohaegbu’s statement, concerns were raised over the absence of consensus meetings, alleged discrepancies in primary election processes, and the inclusion of individuals said not to have emerged from party primaries.
The text also questioned the transparency of candidate selection and the handling of nomination lists within the party structure.
Among the allegations cited was a claim that candidate lists were allegedly compiled at a hotel in Abuja, with references to senior political figures being involved in the process.
These claims remain part of an ongoing political dispute and have not been substantiated by official party records.
