President Tinubu hails Wike Abuja infrastructure drive as the FCT Minister inaugurates Emmanuel Okanla Boulevard and other projects, delivering visible results under the Renewed Hope Agenda

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Nigeria has praised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for his impressive performance in driving infrastructure development across Abuja.

The commendation came during the inauguration of Collector Road CN2, also known as Emmanuel Okanla Boulevard, and associated projects in the Katampe District of the Federal Capital Territory on Friday, June 19, 2026.

Vice President Kashim Shettima represented the president at the event and conveyed Tinubu’s strong endorsement.

“When I gave him the assignment to make Abuja a true capital city, I knew his track records. Wike, you have not disappointed Mr President,” Shettima quoted Tinubu as saying.

The president described Wike as a man who “does not give excuses; he gives results,” noting the minister’s tireless efforts in transforming abandoned roads into boulevards, delivering water projects, judicial quarters and solar-powered street lighting. “Abuja’s city life is coming back, and criminal hideouts are disappearing.

This is exactly what good governance delivers: security, mobility and dignity,” Tinubu added.

The newly inaugurated road, a 3.9-kilometre network equipped with underground drainage, water and sewer pipelines, telecommunications ducts, solar street lights, pedestrian walkways and green areas, improves connectivity between Katampe, Mabushi, Jahi, Maitama and neighbouring districts.

It addresses a missing link identified after the completion of nearby infrastructure last year.

Speaking at the ceremony, Wike explained the holistic approach. “Last year, when Mr President commissioned the Gishiri road and the bridge linking Maitama, this road did not even exist. We identified the missing link and immediately moved to address it because infrastructure must be holistic.”

The FCT Minister highlighted the project’s impact on attracting investments and stimulating real estate development.

“People say nothing is happening in Nigeria, but when you look around Abuja and see construction sites everywhere, new buildings emerging daily and businesses investing heavily, the evidence speaks for itself,” he said.

Wike also noted ongoing efforts to extend development to rural and satellite communities, including a recently completed road linking Tungan-Madaki and an upcoming water supply scheme in Karu scheduled for inauguration on Monday.

This latest achievement forms part of a broader commissioning exercise by the FCT Administration, reflecting the Renewed Hope Agenda’s focus on translating governance into tangible benefits for residents.

The projects are creating employment, enhancing economic activities and improving living standards across the territory.

Minister of State for the FCT, Dr Mariya Mahmoud, commended all stakeholders for their contributions, while the Acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority, Richard Dauda, detailed the road’s comprehensive design and future benefits.
