Ten people have died and six others have been injured after an Ogun Road Crash involving a truck and a commercial bus along the Ibadan to Lagos Expressway in Ogun State on Sunday, 5 July 2026.

The Federal Road Safety Corps spokesperson for Ogun Sector Command, Afolabi Odunsi, said the fatal collision occurred at about 8:05pm at Saapade Bridge near Ogere.

The crash involved a white Sinotruk (CNHTC) truck and a white Toyota Hiace bus with registration number EKY 290 YM.

According to Odunsi, 18 people were involved in the collision, including 15 adult men, two adult women and one male child.

Nine adult men and the child lost their lives, while six people, comprising four adult men and two adult women, sustained varying degrees of injuries. Two adult men escaped without injury.

Preliminary investigations by the FRSC found that the crash resulted from a combination of speeding, wrongful overtaking and dangerous driving.

“The truck driver reportedly reversed on the highway after missing his direction, while the approaching bus, travelling at high speed, attempted to navigate through the limited space available and rammed into the truck,” Odunsi said.

FRSC rescue teams responded promptly to the scene and evacuated the injured victims to Victory Hospital, Ogere, for treatment. The bodies of the deceased were deposited at FOS Mortuary in Ipara.

Personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, Ishara Division, took custody of the damaged vehicles, while recovery operations cleared the wreckage and restored the free flow of traffic along the busy expressway.

The Ogun Sector Commander of the FRSC, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, expressed condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

Ogunjobi also issued a renewed appeal to motorists, particularly commercial drivers and truck operators, to avoid reversing on highways, excessive speeding and other dangerous traffic violations.

“Road users should always obey traffic rules, maintain safe speeds and use designated turning points whenever they miss their routes. These simple precautions can prevent needless loss of lives on our highways,” Ogunjobi said.

The devastating Road Crash adds to growing concerns over road safety on Nigeria’s major highways, where speeding, unsafe overtaking and poor driving decisions continue to contribute to fatal collisions despite sustained enforcement campaigns by the FRSC.
