Ondo State Commissioner of Police, CP Felix Ohagwu, and Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, confirmed the arrest of 27-year-old Solomon Onaola in Omifon, Odigbo Local Government Area, following an allegation of sexual abuse involving a 15-year-old girl who worked as a domestic help.

The Ondo police arrest followed a complaint initially lodged at the Odigbo Divisional Police Station before the matter was transferred to the Gender Based Offences Unit for a discreet investigation.

According to Jimoh, the girl’s guardian reported the matter to police on August 2 after noticing that the teenager had repeatedly left the household without permission.

During questioning, the teenager allegedly told the guardian that Onaola had been taking her to his late mother’s residence in Omifon, where the alleged sexual offences occurred.

Police subsequently arrested Onaola as detectives began investigating the allegation.

The Ondo State Police Command stressed that the allegation remains subject to investigation and that the facts of the case must be established before any conclusion is reached.

“The victim has also been placed under appropriate care and necessary steps are being taken in accordance with established procedures for cases involving alleged sexual offences against minors,” Jimoh said.

The police said the Gender Based Offences Unit had been directed to handle the investigation professionally, with particular attention to the welfare of the teenager.

CP Felix Ohagwu directed the unit to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that appropriate action is taken based on the evidence gathered.

The case highlights the particular vulnerability of children working as domestic help, especially where young people may be living away from their immediate families and relying on guardians or employers for protection.

Child protection agencies and law enforcement authorities in Nigeria have repeatedly urged parents, guardians and members of the public to pay close attention to the welfare of children in their care and report suspected abuse promptly.

The Ondo State Police Command has also continued to encourage members of the public to provide information that could help prevent violence and exploitation involving children and other vulnerable people.

For the teenager involved in the latest case, police said appropriate care is being provided while the investigation continues.

Onaola remains in police custody and is expected to be charged in court after investigators conclude their work, according to the police.
