Nigerian troops under Operation Hadin Kai have repelled an attack by suspected Islamic State West Africa Province, ISWAP, terrorists on a military position in Pulka, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.

The attack occurred on Monday, September 7, 2026, as troops continued counter-terrorism operations in the area. According to the military, the terrorists launched an intense assault in an attempt to breach and overrun the position.

However, the soldiers held their ground and responded with sustained firepower and determined resistance, denying the attackers access to the military location. The resistance eventually forced the terrorists to withdraw from the area with casualties.

The operation was supported by the Nigerian Air Force and the Civilian Joint Task Force, with the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai providing Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance support during the engagement.

The military said the aerial support improved the troops’ situational awareness and helped coordinate the response. As the terrorists attempted to withdraw, the Air Force reportedly carried out precision strikes against identified hostile elements, disrupting their movement and preventing them from regrouping.

The CJTF also provided local information and assisted the security forces with situational awareness during the operation.

One soldier sustained a gunshot injury to his left arm during the encounter and was evacuated for medical attention. The military said the soldier was stabilised and his condition remained stable.

Military positions across Pulka remained under the control of the security forces, while troops were placed on heightened alert and continued patrols, surveillance and other offensive and defensive operations in the area.

The military also urged residents and members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious persons, movements or activities to security formations as efforts continue to prevent terrorist groups from regaining ground in the area.
