Dear Fellow Rotarians and Friends of Rotary,
Welcome to September — a month that calls us to deeper reflection and renewed action in Rotary.
September is Basic Education and Literacy Month on the Rotary calendar. It reminds us that every child who can read, every adult who has the opportunity to learn, and every community with access to knowledge is one step closer to lasting peace and prosperity.
In his September message, DG Layi Abidoye urges us to “lead with service and build with unity.” He challenges all District 9112 clubs to turn ideas into action this month, especially through literacy projects that change lives at the grassroots.
Our Rotary International President, Yinka Hakeem Babalola, in this year’s push, is asking us to “Unite for Good and Amplify Our Impact.” For September, that amplification begins in classrooms, libraries and adult learning centres.
Our esteemed Trustee Pearl Okoro also beautifully reminds us that “literacy is more than reading and writing — it is freedom, it is dignity, it is the foundation for every other Rotary cause.”
Looking Back: August
August was a remarkable month for District 9112. From impactful health outreaches and youth mentorship programmes to successful club investitures and fellowships, our clubs demonstrated what “Service Above Self” truly means. The energy, creativity and commitment across the district set a strong tone for the Rotary year.
Looking Ahead: September
This month, we lean into literacy. Expect to see club book drives, school rehabilitation projects, teacher training support and digital literacy programmes across our communities.
We are also preparing clusters for the West African Projects Fair in November, and September provides an opportunity to form those teams and align on themes.
