DG Layi Abidoye holds a quarterly media briefing and breaks ground on Rotary District 9112’s new Media Centre in Lagos
Rotarian Layi Abidoye, District Governor of Rotary International District 9112, on Tuesday, 14 July 2026, held a quarterly media briefing with journalists, inaugurated the District Public Image Committee, and performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the district’s proposed Media Centre at the Rotary Centre, 8 Ladoke Akintola Street, Ikeja GRA, Lagos.
The event drew members of the District Governor’s core team, the newly formed Public Image Committee and media practitioners, as the district unveiled its plans to strengthen public image, sharpen strategic communication and invest in media infrastructure in line with Rotary International’s 2026 to 2027 theme, Create Lasting Impact.
Proceedings opened with the formal inauguration of the District Public Image Committee, followed by the groundbreaking ceremony.
The committee is chaired by Past Assistant Governor Chinedu Ebo of Rotary Club of Victoria Island East, with Rotarian Victor Ojelabi of Rotary Club of Ikeja Township serving as Vice Chairman, and was installed by Abidoye to drive the district’s communication agenda for the year ahead.
Presenting the committee’s vision, Ebo outlined plans to reposition Rotary’s public image through improved media engagement, digital communication, brand consistency and regular capacity building.

He announced that the committee would organise monthly training sessions for Public Image Directors across the district’s clubs, aimed at sharpening storytelling and media relations around Rotary’s humanitarian work.
Ojelabi, presenting the committee’s roadmap, explained that the proposed Media Centre would take shape through careful planning, close collaboration and sustained commitment from clubs across the district, while also presented the direction of the District magazine, D9112Monthly in positioning District properly in the Nigerian media space.

A detailed presentation on the Media Centre followed, delivered by Rotarian Chikadibia Nnaji of the Rotary Club of Eko Cosmopolitan.
The day’s programme extended beyond ceremony into practical groundwork.
The the Governor’s briefing session, the first in what is planned as a regular quarterly engagement with the media, was held before the day closed with meeting room at the Rotary Centre was commissioned as the Public Image Training Room, and plans were unveiled to integrate a District Digital Library under the committee’s assets.

The initiative marks a notable investment for a district that already counts strong public image performance among its recent achievements, with several clubs, including the Rotary Club of Ikoyi Metro, having secured national and international recognition for their media and storytelling efforts over the past Rotary year.
It builds on that momentum, giving the district a dedicated physical base from which to coordinate its communication work going forward.
