JMG, Trane highlight smarter cooling at Big 5 Construct

The partnership used the three-day Lagos exhibition to showcase energy-efficient HVAC technology and engage professionals on the changing needs of Nigeria's built environment.

JMG Limited’s Clima division and Trane Technologies showcased cooling solutions and engaged construction professionals at Big 5 Construct Nigeria 2026 at Landmark Centre, Lagos, from September 22 to 24, as demand for efficient building systems gains greater attention across Nigeria’s expanding built environment.

The exhibition, the sixth edition of Big 5 Construct Nigeria, brought together more than 170 exhibitors from over 20 countries and was expected to attract more than 10,000 industry professionals across the three-day programme.

For JMG Clima and Trane, the event provided an opportunity to put cooling technology into a wider conversation about how Nigeria’s rapidly developing commercial, residential and industrial spaces can operate efficiently over their working lives.

At the JMG Clima and Trane stand, visitors were introduced to Trane air-conditioning and HVAC solutions intended for different building requirements, while members of both teams discussed project needs, system performance and the importance of energy efficiency.

Vineeth Vijayan, Sales Leader for Nigeria and Ghana at Trane Air Conditioning, said the country’s construction activity was creating demand for increasingly specialised cooling systems.

“Buildings are going up, left, right and centre, and these buildings require cooling, specialised kinds of cooling and commercial cooling,” Vijayan said.

The observation reflects a broader issue facing developers and facility operators. Installing an air-conditioning system is only one part of the equation, with energy consumption, maintenance, reliability and long-term operating costs also influencing decisions.

Idoko Jonahs Adejoh, Business Development Manager, HVAC, at JMG Limited, said the partnership with Trane was focused not simply on cooling buildings but on providing systems designed with energy efficiency in mind.

“JMG Clima has partnered with Trane Technologies to provide heating, ventilation and cooling systems to Nigeria, not just cooling systems, but cooling systems that are energy efficient,” Adejoh said.

Adejoh acknowledged that energy-efficient systems can sometimes require a higher initial investment, but said the longer-term reduction in energy consumption could provide value to customers.

“The initial investment into this might be a bit high, but in the long run, it cuts down on your energy consumption, giving you good value for your investment,” he said.

That balance between upfront cost and lifecycle value was particularly relevant at an exhibition where project delivery, sustainability and operational efficiency featured prominently in the wider programme.

The official Big 5 Construct Nigeria agenda included discussions on construction delivery, technology, sustainable building materials, resilient cities and net-zero development, reflecting the sector’s growing focus on how buildings perform beyond the construction phase.

JMG Clima’s participation also built on an established relationship with Trane.

JMG identifies its Clima division as its dedicated HVAC and cooling business and says it provides Trane systems for residential, commercial and industrial applications in Nigeria.

Its portfolio includes chillers, variable refrigerant flow systems, rooftop units, air-handling units and other climate-control technologies.

JMG has also previously deployed Trane technology in Nigerian projects.

In 2025, the company said it worked with Lambert Electromec on a cooling upgrade at Rack Centre, describing the installation of a Trane VRF system designed with energy efficiency and operational redundancy in mind.

More recently, JMG said it completed a high-efficiency Trane HVAC installation for a prominent Nigerian food company in Lagos after carrying out a cooling-load analysis and HVAC audit.

The Big 5 exhibition therefore offered more than a conventional product showcase.

It gave JMG Clima and Trane an opportunity to speak directly with consultants, contractors, developers, business owners and other professionals who influence decisions around building services.

The event also generated new business conversations and potential leads for follow-up by the JMG Clima and Trane sales teams, according to the companies’ account of their participation.

For Vijayan, the relationship between the two organisations also extends beyond equipment supply to customer support.

“Customers are benefiting not really only on the sales aspect, but also on the after-sales aspect,” he said.

That element is important in a market where cooling equipment can represent a significant long-term operating commitment.

Reliable installation, maintenance and technical support can influence how effectively a system performs after a project has been completed.

JMG’s own corporate information states that the company has operated in Nigeria since 1998 and provides engineering, installation, commissioning, maintenance and after-sales support across its business divisions.

Trane, meanwhile, maintains an Africa sales structure covering Nigeria and other markets, with its regional offering spanning chillers, air-handling and terminal products, controls, energy-saving solutions and HVAC maintenance services.

The discussions at Big 5 Construct Nigeria came against the backdrop of a construction industry seeking to manage rising project demands alongside questions of cost, energy use and sustainability.

The exhibition itself highlighted those pressures. Organisers said the 2026 edition featured more than 170 exhibitors, over 20 exhibiting countries and more than 30 CPD-certified sessions, bringing together professionals from across the construction value chain.

For JMG Clima and Trane, the three-day gathering ultimately created a useful bridge between technology and the practical concerns of the people designing, building and operating Nigeria’s next generation of spaces.

As more commercial, residential and industrial developments take shape, the cooling conversation is increasingly moving beyond simply keeping rooms comfortable.

Questions of energy efficiency, reliability, maintenance and long-term value are becoming central to decisions about how buildings should operate.

The JMG Trane cooling solutions showcased in Lagos formed part of that wider conversation, with the partnership using the exhibition to demonstrate technology while listening to the people responsible for turning building plans into functioning spaces.
