The Ghana Police Service has arrested three Nigerian nationals suspected of belonging to a robbery syndicate targeting bank customers in Kumasi and surrounding communities, following an intelligence-led operation on Saturday, 31 October 2026.
The arrests were announced by the Ashanti Regional Police Command on Tuesday, 3 November, as officers continued searching for a fourth suspected accomplice.

The suspects were identified as Aboy Promise, 30, Favour Uwalaka, 45, and Kingsley, 35, also known as KC. The police said the operation was conducted by an Inspector-General of Police Special Team comprising officers from the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department headquarters and the Accra Regional Police Intelligence Directorate.
According to a statement signed by Superintendent Godwin Ahianyo, Head of the Ashanti Regional Police Command’s Public Affairs Unit, the operation began at about 11.30pm following intelligence gathered on the suspected group.
Promise and Uwalaka were arrested at a hotel in Moshie Zongo, where a search reportedly led to the recovery of GH¢1,600, assorted mobile phones, a Royal motorcycle and a master key believed to have been used to gain unauthorised access to vehicles belonging to bank customers.
Police said the two suspects identified alleged accomplices during interrogation, including Kingsley and Chinedu, known as Alhaji.
The operation subsequently led officers to another hotel in Dechemso, a suburb of Kumasi, where Kingsley was arrested. Chinedu remains at large, with the police appealing to the public for credible information that could assist in locating him.
The police described the suspected group’s alleged method of operation as one involving surveillance of banking premises, where members reportedly identified customers withdrawing substantial sums of money and followed them before carrying out robberies.
Investigators also suspect the group used a master key to enter unattended vehicles belonging to bank customers and steal cash left inside.
The arrests follow an alleged robbery at Asokore Mampong on Tuesday, 27 October, in which a customer was reportedly robbed of GH¢15,000 after withdrawing the money from Kwamang Rural Bank.
“The suspects admitted to robbing a victim of GH¢15,000.00 at Asokore Mampong on Tuesday, 27th October 2026, after the victim had withdrawn money from Kwamang Rural Bank,” the police statement said.
The suspects are also alleged to have admitted involvement in similar incidents near the Atonsu branch of Fidelity Bank, the Ahodwo branch of Access Bank and other locations within Kumasi and its environs.
The three men have been handed over to the Ashanti Regional Police Command and are assisting with ongoing investigations. Police have not announced any court charges in the reports reviewed.
The latest arrests come amid continued concerns over robberies targeting people carrying cash after visiting banks in Kumasi.
In a separate case reported in June 2025, police arrested five suspects accused of targeting bank customers and breaking into vehicles.
Reports at the time said the group was linked to losses totalling GH¢497,000 between November 2024 and June 2025. Authorities have not indicated whether that case is connected to the current investigation.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command has urged bank customers to remain vigilant, particularly when withdrawing large amounts of money or leaving banking premises.
“The command cautions bank customers to remain vigilant, be alert to suspicious persons around banking premises and avoid leaving cash or other valuables unattended in vehicles,” the statement said.
Police have appealed for information leading to the arrest of Chinedu, alias Alhaji, and advised anyone with credible information to contact the nearest police station or call emergency numbers 191 or 112, or the toll-free MTN and Telecel line 18555.
The investigation remains ongoing, with police seeking to establish the full extent of the alleged offences and determine whether other individuals were involved.
