Nigerian rapper Olamide has defended African heritage, declaring that the culture and tradition should not be labelled diabolical.
The YBNL boss made the remarks on Tuesday at a private screening of the film Ose Dudu at The Pod by Nile Luxury Cinemas in Lagos.
“Our culture and tradition is not diabolical and it is not to be demonised,” he said. “And we’re proud of who we are, where we’re coming from and everything about our heritage, tradition and culture.”
Speaking partly in Yoruba, Olamide used black soap, known as ose dudu, to illustrate his point.
“I’m a Yoruba boy. If you give me black soap, I’ll gladly collect it and use it,” he added.
The rapper, dressed in a colourful adire outfit, urged Nigerians to embrace their roots and stop treating traditional practices as something sinister.
His comments have drawn attention online, with many praising him for promoting cultural pride.
