It was a day of joy for the people of Amakohia-Ubi in Owerre West Local Government Area of Imo State as the Nigerian Army (NA) inaugurated five blocks of classrooms for the Amakohia-Ubi Community Primary School and Local Education Authority (LEA) Primary School, Amakohia-Ubi.
The project was undertaken as part of the army’s corporate social responsibility to commemorate the 2020 Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL).
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, said apart from its statutory duty of protecting lives and property, the army was also desirous of furthering military- civil cooperation through executing projects that would advance the educational and social wellbeing of the people.
Lt. Gen. Buratai who was represented by the GOC 82 Division, Maj. Gen. Lasisi Adegboye, further said the effort of the army in fighting insurgency had been rewarding as the capacity of insurgents to inflict pain had been seriously degraded.
He expressed the commitment of the military to protect the lives and property of Nigerians wherever they are living.
Governor Hope Uzodimma said the gesture of the army had put a searchlight on the community.
He said the project had opened the community to future development and pledged that his government would cooperate with any organisation or group that showed interest in developing the state.
The National President of Amakaohia Ubi Community Development Union, Kevin Uzozie, said the community had been neglected by successive administrations and hoped that the present administration would remember them now.
