A London based business man, Olugbenga Aloto, who declared his intention to run for office of the governor of Lagos State in 2015 is angry at the moment as he was racially profiled and arrested for stealing an iPhone.

The incident happened on the street of London, Woolwich to be precise, where he was accosted and handcuffed for his belongings to be searched. He was enraged to find out that he was being embarrassed over an allegation of stealing a phone.

When the officers stated their mission, he demanded that the cuffs should be removed and threatened to sue as the officers were seen apologising for their indiscretions.

Aloto wrote on his Facebook wall after the encounter.

“This just happened to me in Woolwich,London. Uk… I got racially profiled and Cuffed… The police said because i was wearing a red jacket that matched with a report of a black man who had just stolen an i-phone at Woolwich public market… Can you imagine?”

Back in 2015, when the businessman and CEO of Shabba Estates and Shabba Records Ltd. declared his candidacy for the Office of Governor of Lagos State, he stated that he would reduce the high rate of unemployment and ensured long term economic stability.

“I am proud to have the opportunity to serve my people in a role such as Governor of Lagos State,” says Gbenga Aloto. “I believe in the great potentials and capacity of Lagos State to be the greatest city in Africa, and an envy of the world. I believe the competitiveness of any economic base is inextricably linked to the quality and quantity of the infrastructure available to it.”

“We live in a new challenging world, so we can’t keep doing the same things over again, and expecting a different result. The time for change is now. Everything is possible,” he said.
