The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested Hafsat Ganduje, the wife of Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, in connection with a bribery and land fraud case reported by her son.
According to report, the Kano first lady was arrested after one of her sons, Abdulazeez, filed a petition against her.
Abdulazeez, the governor’s son, said in his petition that he was approached by a property developer to assist in the acquisition of various pieces of land in Kano for a fee of hundreds of thousands of dollars.
He said that three months later, the property developer learned that the plots of land he had paid for had been assigned to other customers, prompting him to seek a refund.
According to Abdulazeez, the mother refused to comply with the request, straining his relationship with the developer.
After filing the plea, which was extensively covered in the media, he was alleged to have left for abroad.
The Kano first lady had been summoned by the anti-graft agency, but she was claimed to have declined the request.
An official of the EFCC disclosed on Tuesday morning that Ganduje’s wife was picked up following her rejection to honour the invitation extended to her.
The senior official noted that she was quizzed immediately after her arrest Monday evening by the crack detective team of the anti-graft agency, adding that she would continue to respond to queries in relation to the subject matter on Tuesday at the commission’s headquarters.
