Some selected cyclists from Lagos State under the auspices of Rotary Club of Ikeja-Alausa will be organising a 50km ride within the National Stadium, Surulere as the club is putting together ‘Pedal to End Polio’, a cycle rally to help raise funds for polio eradication.

The Rotary Foundation is the engine that powers so many Rotary projects throughout the world, which transforms your gifts into projects that change lives.

The Rotary Club of Ikeja-Alausa Rotary Foundation Chairman, Rtn. Sola Ayanwale PHF, informed the media on Wednesday that the race was to create awareness and to raise funds.

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO),  safe infrastructure for walking and cycling is also a pathway for achieving greater health equity.

Ayanwale said that Rotary and cycling had tremendous networking and health benefits for all age groups, hence the race would focus more on educating the public and creating more awareness.

“It is important for people to know the importance of joining Rotary club and the various health benefits that they can derive from cycling, aside from the fact that it is also classified as a sport. Cycling is also a sport that lightens the whole body system.

“Cycling is among the safest exercises that anyone can embark upon and Rotary is a club you join with a lot of benefits,” Ayanwale said and informed that the gathering time for the cyclists is 6:00 a.m to 7:00 a.m.
