Roman Abramovich, owner of Chelsea football club, has officially announced his decision to sell the English club after several weeks of speculation.
The Russian billionaire broke the news in a statement released via the club’s website on Wednesday.
This is coming after Ukraine’s invasion by Russia to which the UK government has stood solidly against and has taken actions to sanction Russia over the show of force on it’s neighbouring country.
Initially Abrahamovic announced the passing of the club to it’s board of trustees/foundation and had quieted down the rumour of the sales.
However Abrahamovic has come out to announce the decision reached to put the club on sale.
“I have always taken decisions with the club’s best interest at heart,” the statement read.
“In the current situation, I have therefore taken the decision to sell the club, as I believe this is in the best interest of the club, the fans, the employees, as well as the club’s sponsors and partners.”
The Russian billionaire according to reports has placed a heavy tag price said to be around £3bn on Chelsea in bid to se out the club.
