A former spokesperson for Atiku Abubakar Presidential Campaign Organisation, Segun Showunmi, has made good of his intention to join the governorship race in Ogun State on the platform of People’s Democratic Party by picking his nomination form today at the party secretariat, Abuja.
Earlier in the day when Showunmi made the announcement seen by Freelanews’ correspondent, he wished other aspirants in the same party vying to deprive the incumbent governor, Dapo Abiodun, a chance at second term, good luck.
“Dear all, I write to inform you that Segun Showunmi; your worthy son, your affable brother, your dependable friend, will be picking up the governorship nomination form today at the PDP Secretariat Abuja, also known as Wadata Plaza. This will be the beginning in intentional steps to bring to the fore the journey of so many years in earnest.
“I would like to wish my brothers that have also picked up the governorship nomination forms on the platform of our great party, the PDP and across all political parties all the best,” he wrote.
Showunmi, who once blamed the inability of the PDP to win the governorship seat in the past elections to the infighting within the party, implored his colleagues in the party to demonstrate a high degree of maturity in the days ahead.
“While imploring that we must demonstrate a high degree of maturity, decency, decorum and panache in the forthcoming days especially during the campaigns to inspire the upcoming mostly younger ones, just as we have been inspired in the past by the actions of quality men of yesteryears.
“Democracy is a platform that puts visionary ideas into practical implementations on how best the citizens can be served. I hopefully will make the people of Ogun State and my humble self proud as I take sure footed steps abiding by the Grace of God to begin the journey into leadership call to service for the government of the people in Ogun with these words of Scripture: “Be strong and courageous because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their ancestors to give them.” Joshua 1:6,” he wrote.
The aspirant served as Deputy Press Secretary to Otunba Gbenga Daniel, when the latter held sway as governor in Ogun State.
