The Osun governor shared a tender moment with his nephew after securing a second term in the closely watched governorship election
Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke became emotional in Osogbo on Sunday, August 16, 2026, during a congratulatory phone call from his nephew, Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, following the governor’s re-election for a second term.

A video circulating online captured the warm exchange between the governor and the singer, who had actively campaigned for his uncle throughout the election.
“Come and give me a hug,” Adeleke was heard telling Davido during the emotional conversation.
The Adeleke Davido victory call came a day after the Osun governorship election, in which Adeleke secured another four-year mandate after defeating his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress.
The Independent National Electoral Commission declared Adeleke the winner after he polled 511,067 votes across the state, compared with Oyebamiji’s 444,815 votes.
Adeleke won 19 of Osun’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji carried the remaining 11.
Davido had earlier celebrated the result publicly on X, sharing his excitement over his uncle’s victory.
“We did it Unc,” the singer wrote.
In a video accompanying the post, Davido was seen lying on the floor as his aide, Israel, congratulated him.
“Congratulations boss,” Israel said in the clip.
The singer had remained visibly invested in the campaign, repeatedly expressing confidence that Adeleke would retain the governorship.
The relationship between the two men has attracted considerable public attention over the years, with Davido frequently expressing support for his uncle’s political career and publicly participating in his campaigns.
Sunday’s exchange offered a more personal moment after weeks of political activity, capturing the relief and emotion surrounding Adeleke’s successful bid for a second term.
For the governor, the victory marks the continuation of his administration after first winning the Osun governorship election in 2022. For Davido, it represented a significant political moment for a member of his immediate family.
The result has also given Adeleke a renewed opportunity to pursue his development agenda while facing expectations from supporters to consolidate his achievements and address areas where his administration has fallen short.
