NUJ Osun celebrates governor Adeleke’s inspiring 66th birthday

Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke says his administration has fulfilled its 2022 promises as traditional rulers and political stakeholders rally support for his second-term bid

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has promised to pursue more ambitious Adeleke Osun development initiatives across the state if re-elected for a second term in the August 15 governorship election, telling supporters in Erin-Osun and Ilobu that his administration’s achievements so far represent only the beginning.

Adeleke made the pledge during the Imole Campaign Council’s consultation and mobilisation tour in Irepodun Local Government Area, where traditional rulers and political stakeholders expressed support for his bid to remain in office.

The governor, in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, said his administration had delivered on the commitments made to voters during the 2022 election campaign.

He told residents that his government had more plans for the state if given another mandate.

“I appreciate your support. When we came here in 2022, I promised you good governance, and I have fulfilled what I promised,” Adeleke said.

“But the people have not seen anything yet. We will do much more for Osun State.”

The governor’s comments came as the campaign team sought to strengthen grassroots support ahead of the election, with local leaders using the visits to express confidence in his administration and pledge backing for his re-election.

At the conclusion of the campaign rally in Ilobu, former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Lasun Yusuf, spoke on behalf of political stakeholders in Irepodun Local Government Area.

Yusuf expressed confidence in Adeleke’s administration and assured the governor of what he described as “overwhelming support and victory” in the August 15 poll.

The governor also received words of encouragement from traditional rulers in the two communities.

The Elerin of Erin-Osun, Oba Yusuf Adekunle, prayed for Adeleke’s successful re-election and expressed confidence that residents would again give the governor the mandate to continue his administration’s development agenda.

In Ilobu, the Olobu of Ilobu, Oba Ashiru Olatoye, similarly assured Adeleke and members of the Imole Campaign Council of the community’s support.

The monarch said the people of Ilobu and the wider Irepodun Local Government Area would back Adeleke’s second-term ambition.

“You have our prayers and our support. Ilobu stands with you, and the people of Irepodun Local Government will once again support your re-election,” Olatoye said.

“May God grant you victory and strengthen you to continue delivering good governance and development across Osun State.”

The endorsements add to the growing political activity ahead of the governorship election, as candidates and their supporters intensify efforts to secure the backing of voters across the state’s local government areas.

The August 15 election is expected to feature a broad field, with 14 political parties fielding candidates to contest the governorship seat.

For Adeleke, the campaign provides an opportunity to defend his record in office and make the case for continuity, while his opponents will seek to persuade voters that the state needs a different direction.

With the election approaching, the governor’s promise of greater development is likely to remain central to his campaign message as he seeks to build on his 2022 victory and secure another term in office.

The outcome will ultimately be decided by Osun voters when they head to the polls on August 15.
