Lookman, who joined Atletico Madrid last month, opened his account in the 58th minute, reacting quickest to a corner flick from Alexander Sørloth to score with a flying header.
His goal was his fourth in six appearances across all competitions, matching Suárez’s prolific start in the 2020/21 season.
Atletico fell behind early when Jofre scored for Espanyol in the sixth minute, but Sørloth restored parity 15 minutes later.
Álex Baena put Atleti ahead four minutes into the second half before Lookman’s equalising effort.
Sørloth then completed his brace in the 72nd minute, with Espanyol adding a late consolation goal.
Lookman played 60 minutes and provided an influential performance, also registering six assists since joining Atletico.
According to OptaJose, no player except Suárez has achieved such a scoring rate in their first six games for Los Colchoneros.
