Stanley Amandi, a former chairman of AGN’s Enugu state chapter, was reportedly arrested last September.
Recent media reports resurfacing on Friday suggested he was implicated in a plan to topple the federal government, a claim that surprised the guild.
Outgoing AGN President Emeka Rollas and his successor, Abubakar Yakubu, stated that the guild had been informed by the Amandi family about the arrest last year but only learned of the alleged coup involvement through media coverage.
Abubakar Yakubu said, “We thought it was an ordinary case handled by the Department of State Services. We tried to make some efforts on his behalf, but we did not know he was involved in a coup like that.
DSS said he was not in their detention; it was the Defence Intelligence Agency. Until the news broke, we had no idea it was linked to a coup.”
The guild is now reviewing the matter carefully before issuing an official response. Emeka Rollas confirmed that a formal statement would be released shortly.
