Atiku’s son Abba joins APC in Adamawa, declaring that no party can defeat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election
Abba Atiku, son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has formally joined the ruling All Progressives Congress and declared that President Bola Tinubu is unbeatable in the 2027 presidential election.

Abba picked up his APC membership card on Monday at Gwadabwa Ward in Yola North Local Government Area of Adamawa State, where he openly pledged support for Tinubu’s second-term bid. His defection was first announced on January 15.
Speaking after his registration, Abba said his decision was inspired by what he described as strong economic reforms and human capital development under the Tinubu administration.
He insisted that the President’s leadership style had earned nationwide approval.
“I want to make it very clear: nobody or any political party can stop President Bola Tinubu from returning to Aso Rock in 2027,” Abba said.
He added that Tinubu was not divisive and made appointments based on merit rather than tribe or religion.
According to him, the scale of infrastructural development and human-focused policies across the country justified broad support beyond party lines.
He urged Nigerians to mobilise in support of the President to sustain what he described as positive momentum.
Presenting Abba with his membership card, the APC Zonal Vice Chairman for Adamawa Central, Alhaji Isa Bagalti, said the defection had effectively ended debates about the ruling party’s chances in 2027.
He described Tinubu as having no credible challenger.
Also speaking, APC chieftain Alhaji Jamilu Yusuf dismissed other presidential hopefuls as political opportunists, saying the presidency was no longer for the highest bidder but for capable leadership.
Abba’s defection adds a striking twist to Adamawa politics, as his father, Atiku Abubakar, remains a presidential aspirant under the African Democratic Congress.
None of Atiku’s sons are members of the ADC, while another son, Adamu Atiku, remains in the Peoples Democratic Party and currently serves as a commissioner in Adamawa State.
Abba had earlier announced his defection at the National Assembly in Abuja, where he was received by Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin and other APC leaders from the North-East.
He said he would work closely with Senator Jibrin to secure Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

Reacting to the development, Atiku Abubakar said his son’s decision was purely personal, stressing that democratic choices should be respected even within families.
