Atlético Madrid sign Ademola Lookman on a four year deal from Atalanta after a prolific spell and Europa League heroics

Atlético de Madrid have completed the signing of Nigerian international Ademola Lookman from Atalanta, with the forward committing to a four year contract that runs until 30 June 2030.

The Spanish club confirmed the transfer on its official website on Monday, announcing that Atlético Madrid sign Ademola Lookman after an outstanding spell in Bergamo where the attacker re established himself as one of Europe’s most decisive forwards.

Atlético de Madrid stated that Ademola Lookman passed his medical at the Vithas Invictum High Performance Sports Medicine Centre at Arturo Soria University Hospital before proceeding to the club offices at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano, where Chief Executive Officer Miguel Ángel Gil welcomed him and formalised the agreement.

Born in Wandsworth, London, on 20 October 1997, Ademola Lookman progressed through the youth systems of Waterloo FC and Charlton Athletic, making his senior debut for Charlton in November 2015.

Ademola Lookman’s career has spanned the Premier League and Bundesliga, with spells at Everton, RB Leipzig, Fulham, and Leicester City, before his move to Atalanta in the summer of 2022.

At Atalanta, Ademola Lookman enjoyed the most prolific period of his career, making 137 appearances, scoring 55 goals, and providing 27 assists.

Ademola Lookman was instrumental in the club’s historic 2023 to 2024 UEFA Europa League triumph, delivering a remarkable hat trick in the final against Bayer Leverkusen in a 3 to 0 victory that handed the German side their only defeat of the season and secured Atalanta’s first continental trophy.

On the international stage, Ademola Lookman represented England at youth level and was part of the squad that won the 2017 FIFA Under 20 World Cup.

Ademola Lookman later switched allegiance to Nigeria, making his senior debut for the Super Eagles in March 2022, and has since earned 41 caps, scoring 11 goals.
