A 42 year-old man, Lekan Adegbola, has been detained and charged in a Lagos Magistrate Court for allegedly stealing armoured cable worth N4 million from the Eko Atlantic City project on Victoria Island.
Adegbola was apprehended by Nemesis on January 8, 2022, when he allegedly broke into the Eko Atlantic City build site at midnight to steal cable worth N4 million.
However, the defendant’s luck ran out when the security guards on duty apprehended him as he attempted to flee with the stolen cable, according to the police.
Police alleged that following the development, the security men sent a distress call to the Divisional Police Officer, DPO in charge of Bar beach division, Victoria Island, Lagos, who drafted his men to the scene to arrest the defendant.
Adegbola was charged before the Tinubu Magistrate’s Court on a three count charge of stealing.
Police Counsel, Ajaga Agboko informed the court that the defendant committed the offences at midnight at Eko Atlantic City project site, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Agboko told the court that the defendant sneaked into the Eko Atlantic City project site to steal amour cable valued N4m before he was caught by the vigilant security men on duty.
He said the offences, the defendant committed were punishable under section 411, 287 (7) and 328 of the criminal court of Lagos State 2015.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges and Magistrate A. Alogba granted him N1, 000, 000 bail with two sureties in like sum.
Alogba adjourned the case till 27 January, 2022 for mention and ordered that the defendant be kept at the Ikoyi Correctional Facility till he perfected the bail conditions.
