The commissioner of Environment and Water Resources in Lagos State, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, has issued a statement in response to the concerning viral video depicting miscreants collecting money from pedestrians on a pedestrian bridge in Yaba.

Mr. Wahab expressed deep concern and condemnation regarding the activities captured in the viral video. He emphasized that pedestrian bridges in Lagos State are intended for the free and unimpeded use of Lagosians, without any form of obstruction or payment required.

“It is quite unfortunate and condemnable to witness such actions taking place on our pedestrian bridges. Pedestrian bridges are provided for the convenience and safety of Lagosians, and they should be able to utilize them freely without encountering any hindrances or having to pay anyone,” he stated.

He further emphasized the government’s stance against environmental nuisance and lawlessness, affirming that such behavior will not be tolerated in Lagos State.

“I want to assure the public that the government is already taking action to address this unfortunate incident. We are committed to maintaining a safer, healthier, and cleaner Lagos State for all residents,” the honourable commissioner added.

While urging the general public to remain calm, Mr. Wahab reassured Lagosians that measures are being put in place to address the issue effectively. He encouraged citizens to continue using pedestrian bridges without fear or hesitation.

The Office of the Commissioner of Environment and Water Resources reinstated that it remains dedicated to upholding the standards of safety, cleanliness, and orderliness in Lagos State.
