The Premier League side announced the decision on Thursday, bringing to a close the Brazilian’s three-year spell at Old Trafford.

Casemiro joined United from Real Madrid in 2022 in a deal worth £70 million and went on to make 146 appearances for the club, scoring 21 goals.

“A serial winner, we thank Case for his contributions in red so far and hope to finish his time at the club on a high together,” United said in a post on X.

In a statement released by the club, the 33-year-old midfielder said Manchester United would always hold a special place in his heart.

“From the first day that I walked out at this beautiful stadium, I felt the passion of Old Trafford and the love that I now share with our supporters for this special club,” Casemiro said.

“It is not time to say goodbye — there are many more memories to create during the next four months.”

Casemiro built his reputation as one of world football’s most accomplished defensive midfielders during a trophy-laden spell at Real Madrid, where he won five UEFA Champions League titles.

At United, he played a key role in the club’s 2022/2023 campaign, scoring the opening goal in the League Cup final victory over Newcastle United as the Red Devils finished third in the Premier League.

However, he did not feature in United’s FA Cup final win against Manchester City the following season.

One of the club’s highest earners, Casemiro also addressed fans directly on his Instagram page, describing himself as “forever” a Red Devil.

“Knowing when to say goodbye when you feel that you will be remembered and respected forever,” he wrote.

“Four months to give my all for this badge and for our goal. Eternal respect and affection for Manchester United and its wonderful fans.”

Manchester United currently sit fifth in the Premier League table and travel to leaders Arsenal on Sunday as the season enters its decisive phase.
