João Pedro’s brace and Moisés Caicedo’s stunning volley gave Xabi Alonso’s side a commanding victory over AC Milan in Jakarta

Chelsea secured their first silverware of pre-season on Saturday, August 8, 2026, defeating AC Milan 3-0 at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta to win the inaugural Indonesia Super Cup, with João Pedro scoring twice and Moisés Caicedo completing a commanding victory for Xabi Alonso’s side.

The victory came in front of 40,856 spectators and provided Chelsea with an encouraging boost as Alonso continues to shape his squad ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

João Pedro broke the deadlock in first-half stoppage time, rising to meet Caicedo’s corner and glancing his header beyond AC Milan goalkeeper Lorenzo Torriani.

Chelsea returned from the interval with the same starting XI, and the decision quickly paid dividends.

Pedro Neto created the second goal shortly after the restart, moving the ball onto his left foot before delivering a cross towards the back post.

João Pedro escaped his marker and guided the ball into the net to complete his brace.

Caicedo then produced the night’s most spectacular finish.

The Ecuadorian midfielder struck an outside-of-the-boot volley into the corner in the 50th minute after Romeo Lavia played a corner routine towards the edge of the penalty area.

The goal gave Chelsea a three-goal cushion and underlined Caicedo’s growing influence in Alonso’s midfield.

Chelsea continued to threaten after taking control of the contest.

Cole Palmer forced another save from Torriani with an effort from 18 yards, while Nicolas Jackson, introduced alongside Geovany Quenda, struck the post after a powerful run into the Milan penalty area.

The result was particularly encouraging for Alonso after Chelsea had suffered defeats against Tottenham Hotspur and Juventus during their pre-season preparations.

The win also delivered the first clean sheet of the current Far East tour.

Chelsea’s starting side featured Robert Sánchez in goal, with Josh Acheampong, Wesley Fofana, Jorrel Hato and Marco Palestra forming the defensive line.

Caicedo captained the team alongside Lavia in midfield, while Palmer, João Pedro, Neto and Danny Welbeck operated in attacking roles.

Milan made several changes at half-time, but Chelsea maintained their structure and continued to create the clearer chances.

The victory also offered Alonso another useful assessment of his squad.

The Spanish coach has been using the pre-season tour to introduce his ideas and evaluate players before competitive football begins.

For João Pedro, the performance was another reminder of his attacking importance.

His two goals provided the decisive contribution, while Caicedo combined leadership with a spectacular finish of his own.

Chelsea’s success in Jakarta forms part of a demanding Far East tour that has also included matches against Western Sydney Wanderers, Tottenham and Juventus.

The club’s pre-season schedule continues with another fixture in Malaysia before the squad returns to England.

Chelsea will face Johor Darul Ta’zim in Malaysia on Sunday, August 9, as preparations for the new campaign continue.

Although the Indonesia Super Cup is a pre-season competition, the trophy provides Alonso and his players with a timely confidence boost.

More importantly, the performance offered signs of attacking sharpness and greater defensive solidity as Chelsea move closer to the start of the competitive season.

For a team still adapting to a new managerial era, lifting silverware in Jakarta may be a modest milestone, but the emphatic 3-0 victory gives Alonso an encouraging platform from which to continue building.
