Chris Brown pleads guilty to London nightclub brawl charge

American R&B singer Chris Brown has pleaded guilty to an affray charge linked to a 2023 nightclub altercation in London, bringing an end to proceedings that could have resulted in a trial over more serious allegations.

The 37-year-old musician entered the guilty plea on Friday at Southwark Crown Court after the public order offence was read to him.

“Guilty,” Brown told the court while standing in the dock dressed in a beige suit and dark brown tie.

The plea means Brown will no longer face trial on additional allegations, including attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of an offensive weapon involving a bottle.

Prosecutors said those charges, which Brown had previously denied, would be formally withdrawn at a later date.

The case relates to an alleged confrontation at Tape, an exclusive private members’ club in Hanover Square, London, on February 19, 2023, during Brown’s UK tour.

Prosecutors alleged that a man was struck with a bottle before being chased and assaulted during the incident.

The alleged victim, who was also charged in relation to the confrontation, pleaded guilty to affray and is expected to be sentenced alongside Brown.

Brown, who has remained on £5 million bail, is scheduled to return to court for sentencing on October 26.

The singer was arrested in May 2025 at a luxury hotel in Manchester, shortly after arriving in the United Kingdom by private jet. He spent almost a week in custody before being released.

Despite the legal proceedings, Judge Tony Baumgartner later permitted Brown to continue with his scheduled tour, which began in Amsterdam in June.

Brown, known for global hits including Run It! and No Air, has maintained a successful music career spanning nearly two decades.

However, his professional journey has also been accompanied by several high-profile legal controversies.

The guilty plea brings a significant stage of the London case to a close, with the court now set to determine the appropriate sentence based on the circumstances of the offence.
