American comedian and actor Chris Rock has opened up about his past pornography addiction, admitting that the habit contributed to his failure as a husband during his marriage to his ex-wife, Malaak Compton-Rock.
Rock made the revelation in a GQ interview published on Tuesday, November 3, where he reflected on his personal struggles, 2016 divorce and efforts to rebuild his life.
Speaking about the long gap between directing his films Top Five and Misty Green, the comedian explained that his divorce, financial challenges and personal recovery contributed to the break.
“I got divorced. Nobody has a successful divorce, so that takes time,” he said.
Reflecting on his marriage, Rock admitted, “I was not a great husband,” partly because he “watched a lot of porn.”
He disclosed that he stopped watching pornography about five or six years ago.
“I don’t watch porn anymore. I haven’t watched porn in five, six years,” he said.
The entertainer acknowledged that he was not proud of his past behaviour but described it as an experience he had to go through.
“I tested my powers. I definitely realized I wasn’t God or anywhere near him, and I was severely humbled, as I should have been,” he added.
Rock had previously discussed his pornography addiction and infidelity in his 2018 Netflix comedy special, Tamborine.
The comedian and Malaak Compton-Rock divorced in 2016 after nearly 20 years of marriage. They share two daughters.
