Chude Jideonwo made the remark during a conversation on The Clarity Zone Podcast, where the media personality addressed rumours that surfaced following a recent interview with TVC News.
Speaking in a circulating snippet from the discussion, Chude Jideonwo dismissed the speculation while suggesting that public perceptions about sexuality in Nigeria often ignore hidden realities.
“When the TVC interview came out, people were saying maybe I’m gay,” Chude Jideonwo said. “I’m like Lagos is full of married gay people.”
The comment quickly drew attention on social media platforms, where users debated the remark and its broader implications in a country where same sex relationships remain widely stigmatised.
Beyond the controversy, Chude Jideonwo also raised concern about what the media personality described as a disturbing trend involving ritual related advertisements appearing on social media platforms.
Chude Jideonwo recounted seeing multiple accounts promoting traditional rituals and spiritual services online, including one broadcast conducted live from what appeared to be a shrine.
According to Chude Jideonwo, viewers were actively engaging with the broadcast and requesting contact details.
“Ritual is advertised on TikTok. Native medicine, I have seen three people advertising, and people are engaging,” Chude Jideonwo said during the podcast conversation.
Chude Jideonwo described the trend as alarming and called attention to the growing visibility of such content online, warning that the development reflects deeper social anxieties and economic pressures.
The discussion formed part of a wider conversation on public perception, digital culture and the pressures faced by public figures navigating rumours and online scrutiny.
Chude Jideonwo, known for hosting the interview series With Chude, has frequently addressed social issues, mental health and media culture in Nigeria through television and digital platforms.
