Security alert in Ikorodu warns of armed mobilization and potential unrest, urging proactive monitoring to protect Lagos residents

Authorities have issued a public security alert following reports that certain individuals plan to convene at Elepe Bus Stop in Ikorodu tomorrow, allegedly carrying firearms under the pretext of transportation concerns.

The warning comes as residents of Lagos continue to rely on multiple transport options beyond BRT services, including ferries, danfo buses, and ride-hailing platforms such as Uber and Taxify.

Security analysts note that this raises questions about the true motives behind the planned gathering.

Information circulating online suggests that the convergence could be used as a springboard for coordinated protests capable of destabilising Lagos and the wider South-West region, reflecting patterns observed during previous unrest.

Authorities emphasised the importance of proactive monitoring and responsible security coordination to prevent a recurrence of violent disturbances.

During the EndSARS unrest of 2020, Lagos suffered an estimated ₦1 trillion in damage to infrastructure, security facilities, and public assets a figure equivalent to nearly ₦3.9 trillion today.

Security experts stress that preventive measures remain far less costly than post-crisis reconstruction and urge residents to remain vigilant while the situation is closely monitored.
