CKay music sacrifices revealed as the Nigerian singer shares how he left home and dropped out of university to pursue his career

The “Love Nwantiti” hitmaker made the disclosure during a recent livestream on Twitch with streamer Caterefe, offering a candid account of the difficult decisions he made early in life.

CKay said his parents strongly opposed his interest in music, prompting him to leave home at the age of 19 in Kaduna and relocate to Lagos in search of opportunities within the industry.

Upon arriving in Lagos, CKay explained that he initially stayed with a friend before securing a one-room apartment, where he began working as a music producer across multiple studios to sustain himself.

In a striking revelation, CKay added that he made the decision to abandon his university education at 100 level in order to fully commit to music, describing the move as necessary for his growth.

“I came down to Lagos to chase my passion,” CKay said, noting that he had written a detailed letter to his mother explaining his decision after leaving home.

The singer’s journey reflects a powerful narrative of determination and risk, highlighting the personal cost behind his eventual success.

CKay rose to prominence in 2018 with the release of his breakout single Container, before achieving global acclaim with Love Nwantiti, which went on to surpass one billion streams on Spotify and set multiple African music records.
