This achievement surpasses the long-standing record of Yaya Toure, who scored all 11 penalties during his time at Manchester City. Reflecting on his historic feat, Palmer stated:
“Breaking a record held by someone like Yaya Toure is surreal, but my focus remains on contributing to Chelsea.”
Toure’s record stood since his Premier League debut in 2010. Notably, Ivan Toney came close to equalling it in 2023 but faltered on his 11th attempt.
Premier League’s Penalty Elite
Palmer now joins an elite group of penalty takers, with the top conversion rates as follows:
- Cole Palmer: 12/12 (100%)
- Yaya Toure: 11/11 (100%)
- Matt Le Tissier: 25/26 (96.2%)
- Danny Murphy: 18/19 (94.7%)
- Callum Wilson & James Beattie: 16/17 (94.1%)
While legends like Alan Shearer (56/67) lead in total penalties scored, Palmer’s unblemished record sets a new standard for consistency and composure.
Beyond penalties, Palmer’s contributions to Chelsea are staggering. His two goals against Spurs brought his tally to 50 combined goals and assists in just 48 Premier League matches.
Only Erling Haaland, Andrew Cole, and Mohamed Salah have reached this milestone faster for a single club.
With his 100% success rate, Palmer ignites debate over whether he is the greatest penalty taker in Premier League history.
While legends like Matt Le Tissier (96.2%) and Danny Murphy (94.7%) boast near-perfect records, Palmer’s ability to thrive under pressure solidifies his growing reputation.
