In a moment of sports banter, Commissioner Tokunbo Wahab couldn’t resist sharing a playful dig at Chelsea FC after their unexpected defeat to Everton.

Taking to his X handle on social media, the commissioner for the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources posted a photo of elderly individuals donning Chelsea jerseys with a witty caption that read, “Chelshit players that played today.”

The post, accompanied by a tongue-in-cheek commentary, added a touch of humor to the otherwise disappointing result for Chelsea fans. And since his appointment as the commissioner, Wahab’s social media presence has become known for its engaging and sometimes humorous take on current events, and this instance was no exception.

The commissioner has been frequent in the media space due to his drive in ensuring sanity in Lagos landscape by demolishing illegally erected structures, especially unscrupulous real estate developers building on canals and drainage.

“We will build more houses on canals so you can work more with this banter,” Jimoh Haadi Oluwaseyi, MBA, with X handle @HaadiJimoh, threatened.

Taking no prisoners, Wahab responded, “Everton just demolished Stamford Bridge. Was it built on RoW?! 🤔”

While the post was crafted in jest, it resonated with football enthusiasts on social media who joined in the banter, sharing their reactions to the commissioner’s playful commentary.

The light-hearted approach to expressing disappointment in a team’s performance showcases Wahab’s ability to connect with the public beyond the realm of official duties.

The commissioner’s candid and humorous take on the football world, who is a Real Madrid fan, adds a touch of relatability to his public persona, creating a unique bridge between governance and the people.

As the football season unfolds, it remains to be seen whether Chelsea will bounce back.
