Media personality urges the Nigerian Army to show leniency after two soldiers were reportedly detained over security duties at Peller and Jarvis’ wedding

Media personality Ifedayo Olarinde, popularly known as Daddy Freeze, has appealed to the Nigerian Army to release and forgive two serving soldiers reportedly arrested for providing security at the wedding of social media personalities Peller and Jarvis in Lagos.

The appeal followed reports that the soldiers were detained over their alleged involvement in an unauthorised deployment at the celebrity wedding held recently in the Lekki area of Lagos State.

Videos widely shared on social media showed uniformed military personnel managing crowds and providing security at the event.

One of the clips captured a soldier escorting a social media personality through a large gathering of guests, prompting public debate over the presence of serving soldiers at a private function.

Reacting to reports of the arrests, Daddy Freeze released a video on social media urging the military authorities to exercise compassion while considering the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“If not for these soldiers that day, we would have been in trouble. Lagos is not safe. I am begging the Nigerian Army to release them,” Daddy Freeze said.

The broadcaster argued that the soldiers played a significant role in maintaining order as large crowds surged towards vehicles conveying celebrities and guests during the ceremony.

“If not for these guys, they would have been in trouble. The soldiers helped in dispersing the crowd that was jumping on their cars,” he said.

Daddy Freeze further maintained that the soldiers contributed to the protection of lives and property throughout the event and urged Nigerians to support calls for their release.

“They secured our lives and property. Every celebrity at Peller’s wedding benefited from their presence. Let’s write a petition. Please release these people,” he appealed.

The reported arrests have triggered mixed reactions online. While some commentators argued that military regulations should be strictly enforced regardless of the circumstances, others supported Daddy Freeze’s call for clemency, contending that the soldiers appeared to have acted in the interest of public safety.

The Nigerian Army has not publicly commented on the specific incident.

However, the military has consistently maintained that serving personnel are prohibited from undertaking unauthorised private security duties or accepting deployments outside official assignments without prior approval.

The Army’s longstanding regulations are designed to preserve discipline, ensure operational accountability and prevent the misuse of military personnel for private engagements.

Similar disciplinary measures have been taken in previous instances where serving officers or soldiers were alleged to have participated in unauthorised assignments.

The incident has once again highlighted the delicate balance between recognising actions perceived by some members of the public as beneficial and enforcing military rules intended to safeguard professionalism within the armed forces.
