[dropcap]N[/dropcap]igerian music star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has reiterated his commitment to combating drug abuse among youths despite ongoing criticism.
Speaking on The Morning Hustle podcast, the singer addressed accusations of hypocrisy regarding his personal use of cannabis, commonly referred to as weed, and his foundation’s anti-drug campaign.

Davido announced plans to donate funds towards orphanages and initiatives aimed at tackling drug addiction in Nigeria. He explained that while he smokes weed, he does not consider it a hard drug.
“This year, I’m donating to the fight against drug abuse among youths,” Davido said. “I don’t count weed as a hard drug. Some people are saying I smoke weed, but I don’t count weed as a drug.”
The singer expressed concern over the rising cases of substance abuse, which he believes have worsened due to increasing societal pressures.
“A lot of people have been going through a lot recently. Drug addiction is becoming rampant. So I want to donate to that cause to help them quit,” he added.
Davido’s remarks have sparked mixed reactions, with some praising his philanthropic efforts and others questioning his position on cannabis.
Nonetheless, his commitment to addressing youth-related issues, including drug addiction, highlights the broader social challenges affecting Nigerian communities.
