Speaking during the online session, Davido said the decision formed part of a personal sabbatical from active music releases, despite maintaining a dominant presence in clubs and streaming spaces across Nigeria and beyond.
“Stop asking me when I am dropping new music. I am on a musical break,” Davido said during the livestream.
The award winning artist added that his existing catalogue remained influential enough to sustain his relevance in the entertainment industry.
“Like I said if you go to the club right now, 10 out of 20 songs are mine. So I am on a musical break,” Davido stated.
The announcement quickly sparked reactions among fans on social media, with many expressing surprise over the timing of the pause following the singer’s powerful run of commercial success and international performances.
Beyond music, Davido also weighed in on Nigeria’s growing celebrity boxing scene, describing the competition as an exciting and welcome development within the entertainment industry.
“I am actually impressed by the celebrity boxing tournament. It is a welcome development,” Davido said.
The comments came days after streamer Carter Efe defeated controversial singer Portable to emerge as the reigning champion of the Nigerian celebrity boxing tournament.
Following the defeat, Portable publicly accused several colleagues in the music industry of failing to support him, claiming that many entertainers disliked him.
