Davido politics music balance discussed as the singer says he could serve in government without quitting music, while expressing doubts about politics

Nigerian Afrobeats star David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, said during a recent livestream with Davrel that holding a government position would not prevent him from continuing his music career.

Davido explained that even if he were to serve in public office, he would still perform as an artiste, though on a reduced scale due to official responsibilities.

He referenced former Haitian president Michel Martelly as an example, noting that the leader maintained his music career and even performed while in office.

The singer says he won’t allow his government position to withold his musical career, as the singer reflected on his past interest in politics, stating that his enthusiasm has reduced after observing the experiences of other entertainers who transitioned into governance.

He said he has become more cautious about political ambition, adding that several Nigerian celebrities who moved into politics have not achieved notable success.

He stressed that his earlier curiosity about public office has shifted due to what he described as the realities of the political environment, which have made him more sceptical.

Despite this, Davido maintained that a government role would not necessarily end his artistic career, insisting that both paths could coexist, albeit with adjustments.
