Davido responds to wealth criticism with bold post about privilege, birthright

Davido responds to wealth criticism on X, saying his access to private jets is his birthright and mocking trolls who attack his privileged background

Nigerian Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has responded to persistent criticism over his wealthy background and frequent use of private jets.

In a bold post shared on his X handle on Wednesday, the singer addressed trolls who accused him of flaunting his father’s riches.

“This free jet wey I dey fly all around the world dey really pain una. I’m sorry it’s my birth right,” Davido wrote. “In my next life, I go come back as vulcaniser. Ma binu.”

The comment, delivered with sarcasm, stirred widespread reactions online, with fans and critics divided over his unapologetic tone.

Davido, the son of Nigerian billionaire Adedeji Adeleke, has often been targeted for coming from a privileged background.

Despite his success in music, some detractors argue his path was made easier by family wealth.

The award-winning artist, however, has never shied away from his roots and has on several occasions defended his journey in the entertainment industry.

This free jet wey I dey fly all around the world dey really pain una. I’m sorry it’s my birth right.

His latest response serves as another reminder that he views his position not as a flaw, but as a rightful inheritance.

In a follow-up remark, Davido highlighted the irony that people continue to criticise him, even when he is known for his generosity and public goodwill.

Industry observers note that this is not the first time the singer has addressed public resentment.

In past interviews, he has revealed how his background often attracts more hate than love from within the music community.

“People always find a way to talk down on me because of where I come from, even when I give back so much,” Davido once said in an earlier interview.

His latest clapback has reignited debates around class, privilege, and merit in the Nigerian music scene.

Supporters have praised his confidence and humour, while critics say the message was dismissive.

Still, Davido responds to wealth criticism with characteristic bravado — a trait that has become part of his larger-than-life persona both online and off.
