The tattoo, which reads “III: XVI,” was revealed in a video on Okonkwo’s official Instagram page on Saturday, coinciding with his 50th birthday.
The post sparked mixed reactions online, with some critics questioning the appropriateness of a pastor bearing a tattoo.
In a statement on Sunday, Okonkwo framed the tattoo as an act of creative evangelism, noting that it helped preach the Gospel to millions within 24 hours.
“My religious brothers and sisters were busy judging over the tattoo; they didn’t notice that the Gospel (John 3:16) was preached to millions in 24 hours by almost all blogs,” he said.
The pastor also invited followers to his praise party and thanksgiving service on Sunday at DCC Lagos, promising food, fun, and praise.
