District Governor Layi Abidoye begins the Rotary year with 44 new members, two new clubs, 12 club visits and impactful projects across District 9112

Barely one month into the 2026–2027 Rotary year, District Governor Rtn. Layi Abidoye has set an energetic pace for Rotary District 9112, with measurable gains in membership, club development and humanitarian service already emerging across the district.

Speaking during the maiden edition of “District Governor Speaks” on 29 July 2026, the District Governor revealed that District 9112 recorded a net membership growth of 44 Rotarians within its first 29 days, increasing from 2,500 members on 1 July to 2,544 members by 29 July. The district currently comprises 92 Rotary clubs, 50 Rotaract clubs and a vibrant community of 701 Rotaractors, reflecting continued expansion across both Rotary and Rotaract.

The momentum has also translated into new club development. During the period under review, two new Rotary clubs were officially chartered: Rotary Club of Bourdillon Prestige and Rotary Club of Alagomeji Yaba Prestige. A third club, Rotary Club of Eko Signature, is awaiting its charter, signalling that the district’s commitment to sustainable membership growth extends beyond numbers to creating new opportunities for service.

Beyond membership, the District Governor has maintained an active engagement with clubs.

As of 29 July, he had completed official visits to 12 clubs, strengthening relationships with members while reinforcing district priorities. Only one club was unable to receive the Governor during the period, underscoring the remarkable pace of the visitation programme.

“In less than one month, District 9112 recorded a net gain of 44 members, chartered two new Rotary clubs and commissioned several life-changing maternal and child health projects—a strong start to a year of purposeful service.”

The visits have also highlighted Rotary’s continuing impact in communities.

Several Maternal and Child Health projects were commissioned within the first few weeks of the Rotary year, including the donation of neonatal resuscitation equipment and post-partum haemorrhage management training equipment at Island Maternity Hospital and the Nigerian Navy Medical Centre, alongside clinical training for healthcare personnel.

The district also delivered vision and hearing screening for primary school pupils using modern diagnostic technology capable of producing complete results within seconds, while an 11-club collaborative Maternal and Child Health project at LASUTH further demonstrated the power of partnership in addressing healthcare challenges.

The early achievements reinforce the District Governor’s determination to translate the Rotary International theme into practical action. Membership growth, new club development, visible community impact and direct engagement with clubs have all become defining features of the administration’s opening month.

With a growing membership base, newly chartered clubs and an ambitious calendar of activities ahead, District 9112 appears to have begun the Rotary year with purpose, momentum and a clear commitment to expanding Rotary’s reach while delivering meaningful service across Lagos and Ogun States.
